A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

Lynette Killen, CEO
Chandler Hall opened its doors as a nursing home in 1973. Since that day Chandler Hall has expanded from its initial offering of nursing home services to an array of services ranging from child development to hospice. It has been easier to understand the community’s need for services and develop them than it has been to change the main building that had its ground breaking in 1971. From 2000 through 2003, Chandler Hall completed its expansion which added Cottages, Loft Apartments, four Manor Houses offering personal care, and new locations for Child Development and Adult Day. In June, 2009, the Board of Directors, through the approval of a new strategic plan, recognized the need to begin master planning that would provide a road map for Chandler Hall to meet the needs of the community, not just through its services, but through its campus facilities. Dr. William Thomas, a famous geriatrician and entrepreneur, states:

“Every sanctuary for elderhood should be a healing environment that makes it easy for elders to partake of the gifts that regular meaningful contact with the living world has to offer. Sanctuaries should be designed and constructed so that they “rest lightly upon the earth” and honor elderhood’s ancient commitment to stewardship.”

Chandler Hall’s commitment is to follow a road map that will fulfill Dr. Thomas’s ideal of a sanctuary.

In 2010, the Board also adopted this vision statement; “Chandler Hall’s vision is to seek innovative solutions that support and enhance the lives of individuals as they age”. To walk the walk of the vision, Chandler Hall is pursuing a Behavioral Health planning and implementation project that is funded by two Quaker foundations. The project’s goal is to improve the quality of life of residents through meaningful activities and engagement offered by staff trained in new skills. As a further commitment to seeking ways to enhance the lives of elders, inter-disciplinary task forces have identified improvements for the bathing and dining experience of residents. The voices of the residents and their families have been sought out and heard. Changes are underway.

In appreciation of the diversity of our staff, we have launched an annual multi-cultural day that is both a party and an educational event for our staff and residents. Chandler Hall believes that its community and services are enriched by diversity. We are now also offering on-line training for all staff. The program was initially funded through the Bucks County Workforce Investment Board. As noted in this letter, Chandler Hall relies on collaborative community partnerships to do our work. We are grateful to the shared expertise, shared cultural arts and underwriting of new initiatives by our community friends.  It is with continued support and gratitude that we will meet Chandler Hall’s mission and vision.
